Sanctum Studio - Giant Bugs

Sanctum Studio's Giant Bugs descend on Colac's Botanic Gardens

Sanctum Studio's Giant Bugs have superpowers.

The Bombardier Beetle protects itself by squirting acid out of its bum.
The Bee is one of the only species with complex social structures.
The Butterfly emerges from a cocoon after a complete transformation.

Insects are everywhere. Bugs are essential for life on earth. We would not exist without insects to maintain the ecosystems upon which we depend.

Sanctum Studio's Giant Bugs turn the miniscule gargantuan and raise awareness of the ubiquity of insects.

Playable Streets - The Plants

Have you ever made music with a marigold?
Composed with a chrysanthemum?
Or listened to some
lavender?

Connect with nature!

Reach out and touch real plants to play these unique organic instruments.

The Plants are new experimental musical instruments that combine organic matter and bespoke digital sensors developed by Playable Streets. For the first-time these plant-based instruments are available for the public to play and create new live compositions.

Swelling with textural waves and phasing rhythmic movement, The Plants will be unlike any musical

instrument you have ever seen, heard or played.

The Plants installation is open to everyone to interact with, explore, and make new collaborative compositions.

“Can you actually play music by touching a plant?” - Participant
“Are they for sale? I’d like them in my home!” - Participant
“I wasn’t Expecting that” - Participant
“That’s next level!” - Participant

The Connies

The Connies is a collective of tram conductors, performers, educators, ecologists and nature lovers touring festivals, shows and other events throughout Victoria and beyond.

They entertain, educate and inform, creating and distributing beautifully crafted collectable swap-cards that bring environmental, social, historic and cultural themes to your community.

The Connies are a performance troupe born of the rich 112-year Melbourne Tram Conducting tradition. They continue the rites of bag and tickets. The Connies bring along a yarning, poetic and singing trammie tradition and dress in uniforms that span the eras of tram fashion, and swing beautifully crafted antique leather conductors' bags filled with cards and yarns.
